Hello, my name is Sarah Mason and I love making sugar flowers!
From a very young age I have always enjoyed making cakes, and discovered my passion for sugarcraft several years ago when making a Mothers Day cake. I bought a few basic cutters and watched a couple of tutorials on the internet, and to my surprise, managed to make something resembling a rose! Since then I have bought a great deal of cutters and tools, and have been taught by some of the best sugarcrafters in the country. I then turned my hobby into a business, making and decorating cakes and specialising in floral. I made all the cakes and decorations on this website myself, and as you can see, my repertoire is quite varied.
Having studied teaching at college, I now have over 20 years experience in teaching and I know the best way to learn is by providing a hands on experience. After just 1 bite-sized class you will be able to turn a piece of flower paste into a beautiful flower which you can use to decorate a cake or just to admire, as your flower will last for years and years.
I have been professionally trained in cake decorating by Squires Kitchen International School and have been awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 (Very Good) by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. I am also a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild and the National Sugar Art Association, so I can regularly update my training so I can teach my students the latest trends and techniques. Of course I am fully insured and have been DBS checked.
Personally, I find sugarcraft completely absorbing, relaxing, creative, above all, a whole lot of fun!
My students range from those who have never touched flower paste before, to those who can already make basic sugar flowers, to those who are familiar with many sugarcraft techniques and wish to improve their skills.
You can come as a one off experience or book a series of classes that will build on your skills. You might be looking for a new hobby or want to exercise your creativity, or are looking for fun birthday experience. All adults are welcome and I can accommodate most special needs with advanced notice.
Please don’t be shy, anyone can have a go at sugarcrafting!
I run small classes of no more than 4 students, so you get all the attention you need to ensure you learn the required skills and leave with the confidence to repeat them over and again.
If you want a 1:1 learning experience I am happy to do that too. Perhaps you have a special cake to decorate or want to learn how to make a particular flower – just let me know.
All materials and equipment are provided, so there is no o need to purchase anything in advance. Classes are held at my home and there is plenty of parking. I can also run a class at your home, when I will bring everything needed and all you need to provide is a large table!
I would be delighted to perform a demonstration at your club, guild or group, mainly in the South East of England.
Finally, if you are looking for some delicate sugar flowers for a special cake, please don’t hesitate to contact me as I am happy to accept bespoke commissions.
Although I have decided not to make cakes any more, I do run a class on “how to set up and run your own cake business from home”, providing you with the insight and expertise I have gained over the years.
